Producers averaged 4.3 days suitable for fieldwork. Topsoil moisture is rated as 8 percent short, 68 percent adequate, and 24 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture is rated as 8 percent short, 71 percent adequate, and 21 percent surplus. Primary farm activities include cutting alfalfa and planting corn, sorghum, and soybeans. Field Crop Report: Sixty-seven percent of the wheat is headed compared to 42 percent last year and 74 percent for the 5-year average. The wheat condition is rated as 4 percent very poor, 10 percent poor, 32 percent fair, 44 percent good, and 10 percent excellent. Insect infestation of the wheat crop is rated as 79 percent none, 18 percent light, 2 percent moderate, and 1 percent severe. Disease infestation is rated as 64 percent none, 25 percent light, 10 percent moderate and 1 percent severe. Seventy-three percent of the corn has been planted, compared to 84 percent last year and 90 percent for the 5-year average. Thirty-seven percent has emerged, compared to 38 percent last year and 57 percent for the 5-year average. Corn condition is rated as 2 percent very poor, 8 percent poor, 30 percent fair, 51 percent good, and 9 percent excellent. Five percent of the sorghum has been planted, compared to 9 percent previous year and 13 percent for the 5-year average. Fifteen percent of soybeans have been planted, compared to 19 percent in 2008 and 27 percent for the 5-year average. One percent of the soybeans have emerged, compared to 2 percent last year and 7 percent for the 5-year average. Two percent of the sunflowers have been planted, same as last year but four points behind the 5-year average of 6 percent. Two percent of cotton is planted, compared to 4 percent last year and 10 percent for the 5-year average. Six percent of alfalfa has undergone its first cutting, compared to 23 percent the previous year and 32 percent for the 5-year average. Feed Supplies Report: Range and pasture condition is rated as 2 percent very poor, 6 percent poor, 24 percent fair, 54 percent good, and 14 percent excellent. Feed grain supplies were rated as 5 percent short, 94 percent adequate, and 1 percent surplus. Hay and forage supplies were rated as 1 percent very short, 6 percent short, 88 percent adequate, and 5 percent surplus. Stock water supplies were estimated as 4 percent short, 76 percent adequate, and 20 percent surplus.
