Topsoil moisture is rated as 1 percent very short, 24 percent short, 67 percent adequate, and 8 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture is rated as 1 percent very short, 15 percent short, 75 percent adequate, and 9 percent surplus. Fieldwork was extensive this past week with the primary activities being cutting alfalfa and planting row crops. Field Crop Report: Ninety-one percent of the wheat is headed, compared to 75 percent last year and 91 percent for the 5-year average. Two percent is turning, compared to 1 percent last year and 17 percent for the 5-year average. The wheat condition is rated as 6 percent very poor, 10 percent poor, 37 percent fair, 42 percent good, and 5 percent excellent. Insect infestation of the wheat crop is rated as 80 percent none, 16 percent light, 3 percent moderate, and 1 percent severe. Disease infestation is rated as 61 percent none, 26 percent light, 11 percent moderate and 2 percent severe. Ninety-three percent of the corn has been planted, the same as the previous year and 96 percent for the 5-year average. Sixty-one percent has emerged, compared to 62 percent last year and 75 percent for the 5-year average. Corn condition is rated as 2 percent very poor, 7 percent poor, 28 percent fair, 54 percent good, and 9 percent excellent. Eighteen percent of the sorghum has been planted, compared to 19 percent the previous year and 26 percent for the 5-year average. Forty-three percent of soybeans have been planted, the same as the previous year, but 4 points behind the 5- year average of 47 percent. Fourteen percent have emerged, compared to 16 percent last year and 19 percent for the 5-year average. Sixteen percent of the sunflowers have been planted, compared to 4 percent last year and 14 percent for the 5-year average. Twenty-seven percent of the cotton is planted, 5 points ahead of last year’s pace of 22 percent, but the same as the 5-year average. Fifty percent of the first cutting of alfalfa has been completed, compared to 53 percent the previous year and 55 percent for the 5-year average. Feed Supplies Report: Range and pasture condition is rated as 2 percent very poor, 7 percent poor, 28 percent fair, 57 percent good, and 6 percent excellent. Feed grain supplies were rated as 7 percent short, 90 percent adequate, and 3 percent surplus. Hay and forage supplies were rated as 1 percent very short, 9 percent short, 85 percent adequate, and 5 percent surplus. Stock water supplies were estimated as 2 percent very short, 7 percent short, 81 percent adequate, and 10 percent surplus.
