Producers averaged 5.8 days suitable for fieldwork. Topsoil moisture is rated as 3 percent very short, 27 percent short, 68 percent adequate, and 2 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture is rated as 2 percent very short, 17 percent short, 78 percent adequate, and 3 percent surplus. Fieldwork activities for the week included wheat harvest, cutting alfalfa, and applying pesticides to row crops. Field Crop Report: Ninety-six percent of the wheat has been harvested, compared to 93 percent the previous year and 95 percent for the 5-year average. Fifty percent of the corn is silked, compared to 43 percent in 2008 and 57 percent for the 5-year average. Corn condition is rated as 2 percent very poor, 5 percent poor, 25 percent fair, 50 percent good, and 18 percent excellent. Ninety-seven percent of the sorghum has emerged, compared to the previous year at 94 percent and 96 percent for the 5-year average. Sorghum condition is rated as 1 percent very poor, 3 percent poor, 19 percent fair, 65 percent good, and 12 percent excellent. Twenty-five percent of the soybeans are blooming, compared to 23 percent in 2008 and 36 percent for the 5-year average. Soybean condition is rated as 1 percent very poor, 3 percent poor, 22 percent fair, 62 percent good, and 12 percent excellent. Forty-six percent of the cotton is squaring, compared to 85 percent last year and the 5-year average of 51 percent. Cotton condition is rated as 5 percent poor, 23 percent fair, 60 percent good, and 12 percent excellent. Ninety-five percent of the sunflowers have been planted, compared to 82 percent the previous year and 94 percent for the 5-year average. Eighty-seven percent have emerged, compared to 77 percent for 2008 and 86 percent for the 5-year average. Eight percent are in bloom, compared to none last year and 2 percent for the 5-year average. Sunflower condition is rated as 1 percent poor, 15 percent fair, 69 percent good, and 15 percent excellent. Eighty-five percent of the second cutting of alfalfa has been completed, compared to 80 percent the previous year and 84 percent for the 5-year average. Feed Supplies Report: Range and pasture condition is rated as 2 percent very poor, 7 percent poor, 26 percent fair, 54 percent good, and 11 percent excellent. Feed grain supplies were rated as 6 percent short, 92 percent adequate, and 2 percent surplus. Hay and forage supplies were rated as 4 percent short, 85 percent adequate, and 11 percent surplus. Stock water supplies were rated as 4 percent short, 92 percent adequate, and 4 percent surplus.
