There was a pocket of southwest counties that received no measurable precipitation at all. Producers across the State averaged 4.3 days suitable for fieldwork. Topsoil moisture is rated as 3 percent very short, 19 percent short, 74 percent adequate, and 4 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture is rated as 3 percent very short, 14 percent short, 80 percent adequate, and 3 percent surplus. Fieldwork activities for the week included cutting alfalfa and applying pesticides to row crops. Field Crop Report: Sixty-nine percent of the corn is silked, compared to 61 percent in 2008 and 77 percent for the 5- year average. Corn condition is rated as 1 percent very poor, 3 percent poor, 25 percent fair, 52 percent good, and 19 percent excellent. Sorghum condition is rated as 3 percent poor, 20 percent fair, 63 percent good, and 14 percent excellent. Fifty-one percent of the soybeans are blooming, compared to 45 percent last year and 56 percent for the 5- year average. Soybean condition is rated as 1 percent very poor, 2 percent poor, 23 percent fair, 60 percent good, and 14 percent excellent. Sixty-five percent of the cotton is squaring, compared to 94 percent last year and the 5-year average of 68 percent, while 12 percent of the crop is setting bolls, compared to none in the previous year and 7 percent for the 5-year average. Cotton condition is rated as 3 percent poor, 17 percent fair, 58 percent good, and 22 percent excellent. Ninety-three percent of the sunflowers have emerged, compared to 88 percent the previous year and 95 percent for the 5-year average. Eleven percent of the sunflowers are in bloom, compared to 3 percent for 2008 and 8 percent for the 5-year average. Sunflower condition is rated as 2 percent poor, 17 percent fair, 63 percent good, and 18 percent excellent. Eighty-six percent of the second cutting of alfalfa has been completed, compared to 91 percent the previous year and 94 percent for the 5-year average. The third cutting of alfalfa is 8 percent completed, compared to 15 percent in 2008 and 26 percent for the 5-year average. Feed Supplies Report: Range and pasture condition was rated as 1 percent very poor, 5 percent poor, 28 percent fair, 53 percent good, and 13 percent excellent. Feed grain supplies were rated as 5 percent short, 93 percent adequate, and 2 percent surplus. Hay and forage supplies were rated as 3 percent short, 87 percent adequate, and 10 percent surplus. Stock water supplies were rated as 5 percent short, 91 percent adequate, and 4 percent surplus.
