The heaviest amounts were in the southeast part of the State, with Crawford and Labette counties both receiving over 5 inches of rainfall. Producers averaged 5.1 days suitable for fieldwork. Topsoil moisture is rated as 2 percent very short, 19 percent short, 77 percent adequate, and 2 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture is rated as 2 percent very short, 17 percent short, 79 percent adequate, and 2 percent surplus. Fieldwork activities for the week included cutting alfalfa and preparing for wheat seeding. Field Crop Report: Ninety-one percent of the corn is silked, compared to 85 percent in 2008 and 92 percent for the 5- year average. Fourteen percent is in the dough stage, compared to 22 percent last year and 32 percent for the 5-year average. Corn condition is rated as 2 percent very poor, 5 percent poor, 19 percent fair, 56 percent good, and 18 percent excellent. Sorghum is 7 percent headed, compared to 19 percent in 2008 and 22 percent for the 5-year average. Sorghum condition is rated as 1 very poor, 3 percent poor, 17 percent fair, 66 percent good, and 13 percent excellent. Seventy percent of the soybeans are blooming, compared to 61 percent last year and 71 percent for the 5-year average. Nineteen percent are setting pods, the same as 2008 and 28 percent for the 5-year average. Soybean condition is rated as 1 percent very poor, 2 percent poor, 19 percent fair, 62 percent good, and 16 percent excellent. Eight-three percent of the cotton is squaring, compared to 99 percent last year and the 5-year average of 81 percent. Twenty percent of the crop is setting bolls, compared to 4 percent in 2008 and 21 percent for the 5-year average. Cotton condition is rated as 1 percent very poor, 4 percent poor, 21 percent fair, 61 percent good, and 13 percent excellent. Ninety-nine percent of the sunflowers have emerged, compared to 93 percent the previous year and 98 percent for the 5-year average. Nineteen percent are in bloom, compared to 11 percent for 2008 and 19 percent for the 5-year average. Sunflower condition is rated as 1 percent very poor, 6 percent poor, 19 percent fair, 59 percent good, and 15 percent excellent. Ninety-five percent of the second cutting of alfalfa has been completed, compared to 96 percent the previous year and 98 percent for the 5-year average. The third cutting is 22 percent complete, compared to 30 percent in 2008 and 44 percent for the 5-year average. Feed Supplies Report: Range and pasture condition is rated as 2 percent very poor, 5 percent poor, 27 percent fair, 54 percent good, and 12 percent excellent. Feed grain supplies were rated as 6 percent short, 93 percent adequate, and 1 percent surplus. Hay and forage supplies were rated as 5 percent short, 85 percent adequate, and 10 percent surplus. Stock water supplies were rated as 8 percent short, 88 percent adequate, and 4 percent surplus.
