Producers averaged 6.1 days suitable for fieldwork. Topsoil moisture is rated as 5 percent very short, 32 percent short, 62 percent adequate, and 1 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture is rated as 4 percent very short, 30 percent short, 64 percent adequate, and 2 percent surplus. Fieldwork activities for the week included cutting alfalfa and preparing to seed winter wheat. Field Crop Report: Forty-six percent of the corn is in the dough stage, compared to 55 percent in 2008 and 68 percent for the 5-year average. Six percent is in the dent stage, compared to 16 percent last year and 27 percent for the 5-year average. Corn condition is rated as 2 percent very poor, 7 percent poor, 27 percent fair, 44 percent good, and 20 percent excellent. Forty-five percent of sorghum is headed, compared to 51 percent the previous year and 60 percent for the 5-year average. One percent is coloring, compared to 6 percent in 2008 and 8 percent for the 5-year average. Sorghum condition is rated as 1 very poor, 3 percent poor, 22 percent fair, 65 percent good, and 9 percent excellent. Eighty-five percent of the soybeans are blooming, compared to 82 percent last year and 87 percent for the 5-year average. Fifty-eight percent are setting pods, compared to 53 percent in 2008 and 60 percent for the 5-year average. Soybean condition is rated as 1 percent very poor, 5 percent poor, 22 percent fair, 60 percent good, and 12 percent excellent. Ninety-five percent of the cotton is squaring, compared to 100 percent last year and the 5-year average of 94 percent. Sixty-one percent of the cotton is setting bolls, compared to 49 percent in 2008 and 65 percent for the 5-year average. Cotton condition is rated as 1 percent very poor, 4 percent poor, 19 percent fair, 61 percent good, and 15 percent excellent. Fifty-seven percent of the sunflowers are in bloom, compared to 38 percent the previous year and 53 percent for the 5-year average. One percent are in the ray flower dry stage, compared to 3 percent for both last year and the 5-year average. Sunflower condition is rated as 1 percent very poor, 5 percent poor, 21 percent fair, 65 percent good, and 8 percent excellent. Seventy percent of the third cutting of alfalfa has been completed, compared to 73 percent the previous year and 78 percent for the 5-year average. One percent of the fourth cutting has been completed, compared to 4 percent last year and 10 percent for the 5-year average. Feed Supplies Report: Range and pasture condition is rated as 2 percent very poor, 5 percent poor, 27 percent fair, 56 percent good, and 10 percent excellent. Feed grain supplies were rated as 1 percent very short, 6 percent short, 91 percent adequate, and 2 percent surplus. Hay and forage supplies were rated as 1 percent very short, 5 percent short, 84 percent adequate, and 10 percent surplus. Stock water supplies were rated as 3 percent very short, 10 percent short, 84 percent adequate, and 3 percent surplus.
