Producers averaged 6.0 days suitable for fieldwork. Topsoil moisture is rated as 5 percent very short, 38 percent short, 53 percent adequate, and 4 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture is rated as 5 percent very short, 34 percent short, 59 percent adequate, and 2 percent surplus. Fieldwork activities for the week included cutting alfalfa and preparing to seed winter wheat. Field Crop Report: Seventy-two percent of the corn is in the dough stage, compared to 71 percent in 2008 and 82 percent for the 5-year average. Nineteen percent is in the dent stage, compared to 34 percent last year and 46 percent for the 5-year average. Two percent is mature, compared to 3 percent the previous year and 9 percent for the 5-year average. Corn condition is rated as 3 percent very poor, 8 percent poor, 28 percent fair, 46 percent good, and 15 percent excellent. Sixty-five percent of the sorghum is headed, compared to 69 percent last year and 75 percent for the 5-year average. Four percent is coloring, compared to 13 percent in 2008 and 18 percent for the 5-year average. Sorghum condition is rated as 1 very poor, 4 percent poor, 26 percent fair, 61 percent good, and 8 percent excellent. Eighty-eight percent of the soybeans are blooming, compared to 86 percent the previous year and 91 percent for the 5- year average. Sixty-nine percent are setting pods, compared to 64 percent in 2008 and 72 percent for the 5-year average. Soybean condition is rated as 1 percent very poor, 6 percent poor, 24 percent fair, 55 percent good, and 14 percent excellent. Seventy-one percent of the cotton is setting bolls, compared to 76 percent last year and the 5-year average of 78 percent. Three percent have bolls opening, compared to none in 2008 and 1 percent for the 5-year average. Cotton condition is rated as 3 percent very poor, 6 percent poor, 26 percent fair, 54 percent good, and 11 percent excellent. Sixty-nine percent of the sunflowers are in bloom, compared to 54 percent the previous year and 70 percent for the 5-year average. Three percent are in the ray flower dry stage, compared to 7 percent last year and 10 percent for the 5-year average. Sunflower condition is rated as 1 percent very poor, 5 percent poor, 22 percent fair, 65 percent good, and 7 percent excellent. Eighty-four percent of the third cutting of alfalfa has been completed, compared to 82 percent the previous year and 87 percent for the 5-year average. Three percent of the fourth cutting has been completed, compared to 9 percent in 2008 and 18 percent for the 5-year average. Feed Supplies Report: Range and pasture condition is rated as 3 percent very poor, 7 percent poor, 30 percent fair, 52 percent good, and 8 percent excellent. Feed grain supplies were rated as 5 percent short, 93 percent adequate, and 2 percent surplus. Hay and forage supplies were rated as 1 percent very short, 5 percent short, 84 percent adequate, and 10 percent surplus. Stock water supplies were rated as 2 percent very short, 10 percent short, 86 percent adequate, and 2 percent surplus.
