Kansas Dry Bean Production Down

 

Kansas dry bean production is estimated at 210,000 hundredweight (cwt.), 24  percent below the 2005 crop.  Yield is estimated at 2,100 pounds per acre, 100 pounds less than the 2,200 pounds produced per acre last year.  Harvested acres, at 10,000, are down 2,500 acres from the 12,500 acres harvested in 2005.

 

The primary variety grown in Kansas is Pinto.

 

United States production of dry beans is estimated at 23.8 million cwt. for 2006, virtually unchanged from the October forecast but 11 percent below the revised 2005 production.  Area for harvest is estimated at 1.53 million acres, 2 percent below the previous forecast but virtually unchanged from 2005 revised acreage.  The average yield, estimated at 1,558 pounds per acre, is an increase of 35 pounds from the October forecast but 188 pounds below the revised 2005 yield.

Kansas Farm Marketings

 

The following tables of Farm Marketings represent the percent of new crop sales taking place each month.  Wheat marketings generally begin in June and run through the following May.  Row crop sales run from September to August.  Comparison to the 5-year average can indicate whether the crop sales were influenced by prices, exports, or other demands.
