ks-prices AGRICULTURAL PRICES KANSAS AGRICULTURAL STATISTICS SERVICE Kansas Department of Agriculture Topeka, KS 66601-3534 Phone: 785-233-2230 Released: September 1, 2006 Volume 06, No. 09 KANSAS: The August All Farm Products Index of Prices Received by Kansas farmers, at 118 percent of the 1990-92 base, was down 9 points from July but up 10 points from August 2005. The All Crops Index in August, at 138 percent of the 1990-92 base, was down 18 points from July but up 29 points from 2005. The Meat Animals Index, at 115 percent of the 1990-92 base, was up 3 points from July and 4 points above last year. More detailed information regarding price indexes is shown in the first table on the back of this release. Wheat prices in mid-August, at $4.17 per bushel, were down 36 cents from July but 99 cents above last August. Corn prices in mid-August, at $2.20 per bushel, were down 15 cents from July but 9 cents above last August. Farmers received an average of $3.46 per cwt. for sorghum grain in mid- August, down 51 cents from July but 34 cents above last August. Soybean prices, at $4.98 per bushel in mid-August, were down 52 cents from July and $1.19 below last August. All hay prices averaged $95.00 per ton in mid-August, down $1.00 from July but $29.00 higher than last year. Alfalfa hay averaged $107.00 per ton, up $3.00 from July and $37.00 higher than last August. Other hay, at $71.00 per ton, was up $1.00 from July and $14.00 above last August. All beef cattle were bringing an average of $88.10 per cwt. in mid-August, up $2.00 from July and $3.00 above the price from last August. Cow prices, at $46.60 per cwt., were up 90 cents from July but $6.40 below the price from last August. Steers and heifers averaged $88.50 per cwt., up $2.00 from July and $3.10 above August 2005. Calf prices in mid-August were $140.00 per cwt., unchanged from July but up $2.00 from August 2005. The all hog price of $47.20 per cwt. for mid-August was up $1.20 from July but unchanged from last August. Sow prices averaged $34.30, up $1.50 from July but $4.40 lower than August 2005. Barrow and gilt prices averaged $49.10 per cwt. in mid-August, up $1.10 from July and 60 cents above last August. UNITED STATES: The All Farm Products Index of Prices Received in August was 120 percent of the 1990-92 base, up 3 points from July and 4 points above August 2005. The August All Crops Index was 126, up 3 points from July and 11 points above August 2005. The August Livestock and Products Index, at 115, was up 5 points from last month but down 2 points from August 2005.
