The All Crops Index in March, at 166 percent of the 1990-92 base, is up 1 point from February but down 95 points from 2008. The Meat Animals Index, at 106 percent of the 1990-92 base, is down 1 point from February and 10 points below last year. More detailed information regarding price indexes is shown in the first table on the back of this release. Wheat prices in mid-March, at $5.25 per bushel, is up 8 cents from February but down $5.25 from last March. Corn prices in mid-March, at $3.63 per bushel, is up 8 cents from February but $1.45 below last March. Farmers received an average of $5.45 per cwt. for sorghum grain in mid-March, up 51 cents from February but $3.40 below last March. Soybean prices, at $8.65 per bushel in mid-March, is down 61 cents from February and $3.65 below last March. All hay prices averaged $113.00 per ton in mid-March, up $5.00 from February and $14.00 higher than last year. Alfalfa hay averaged $122.00 per ton, up $1.00 from February and $15.00 higher than last March. Other hay, at $77.00 per ton, is down $1.00 from February and $4.00 below last March. All beef cattle is bringing an average of $81.60 per cwt. in mid-March, down 70 cents from February and $9.10 below the price from last March. Cow prices, at $46.30 per cwt., is up 60 cents from February but $7.20 below the price from last March. Steers and heifers averaged $82.70 per cwt., down 70 cents from February and $9.10 below March 2008. Calf prices in mid-March is $113.00 per cwt., down $1.00 from February and down $9.00 from March 2008. The all hog price of $39.20 per cwt. for mid-March is down 10 cents from February but up $6.30 from last March. Sow prices averaged $44.70, down $1.50 from February but $22.10 higher than March 2008. Barrow and gilt prices averaged $38.40 per cwt. in mid-March, up 10 cents from February and $4.00 above last March. UNITED STATES: The All Farm Products Index of Prices Received in March is 126 percent of the 1990-92 base, unchanged from February but 20 points below March 2008. The March All Crops Index is 147, up 1 point from February but 20 points below March 2008. The March Livestock and Products Index, at 108, is down 1 point from last month and down 21 points from March 2008.
