The All Crops Index in July, at 177 percent of the 1990-92 base, is down 28 points from June and down 91 points from 2008. The Meat Animals Index, at 110 percent of the 1990-92 base, is up 2 points from June but 19 below points last year. More detailed information regarding price indexes is shown in the first table on the back of this release. Wheat prices in mid-July, at $5.06 per bushel, are down 94 cents from June and $2.60 below last July. Corn prices in mid-July, at $3.06 per bushel, are down 86 cents from June and $2.91 below last July. Farmers received an average of $4.49 per cwt. for sorghum grain in mid-July, down $1.66 from June and $5.71 below last July. Soybean prices, at $10.10 per bushel in mid-July, are down $1.40 from June and $4.40 below last July. All hay prices averaged $102.00 per ton in mid-July, down $7.00 from June and $18.00 lower than last year. Alfalfa hay averaged $112.00 per ton, down $2.00 from June and $18.00 lower than last July. Other hay, at $76.00 per ton, is down $6.00 from June and $19.00 below last July. All beef cattle were bringing an average of $84.90 per cwt. in mid-July, up $1.40 from June but $14.20 below the price last July. Cow prices, at $49.10 per cwt., are up $1.70 from June but $9.20 below the price last July. Steers and heifers averaged $85.30 per cwt., up $1.40 from June but $14.20 below July, 2008. Calf prices in mid-July are $114.00 per cwt., up $2.00 from June but down $12.00 from July 2008. The all hog price of $37.20 per cwt. for mid-July is down 50 cents from June and down $11.60 from last July. Sow prices averaged $29.30, down $4.20 from June but $6.30 higher than July 2008. Barrow and gilt prices averaged $38.40 per cwt. in mid-July, up 10 cents June but $14.20 below last July. Grain and oilseed prices by district are shown in the second table on the back of this release. UNITED STATES: The All Farm Products Index of Prices Received in July is 130 percent of the 1990-92 base, down 4 points from June and 29 points below July, 2008. The July All Crops Index at 149, down 12 points from June and 34 points below July, 2008. The July Livestock and Products Index, at 112, is unchanged from last month but down 26 points from July, 2008.
