The All Crops Index in December, at 164 percent of the 1990-92 base, is down 22 points from November and down 42 points from 2007. The Meat Animals Index, at 108 percent of the 1990-92 base, is down 8 points from November and 10 points below last year. More detailed information regarding price indexes is shown in the first table on the back of this release. Wheat prices in mid-December, at $4.79 per bushel, is down 60 cents from November and $3.31 below last December. Corn prices in mid-December, at $4.10 per bushel, is down 43 cents from November but 12 cents above last December. Farmers received an average of $5.00 per cwt. for sorghum grain in mid- December, down $1.68 from November and $1.80 below last December. Soybean prices, at $7.88 per bushel in mid-December, is down 95 cents from November and $2.42 below last December. All hay prices averaged $115.00 per ton in mid-December, down $5.00 from November but $12.00 higher than last year. Alfalfa hay averaged $126.00 per ton, down $12.00 from November but $13.00 higher than last December. Other hay, at $82.00 per ton, is down $13.00 from November but $2.00 above last December. All beef cattle were bringing an average of $84.20 per cwt. in mid-December, down $6.00 from November and $8.60 below the price last December. Cow prices, at $41.00 per cwt., is down $2.90 from November and $5.00 below the price last December. Steers and heifers averaged $85.50 per cwt., down $6.10 from November and $8.70 below December 2007. Calf prices in mid-December is $105.00 per cwt., down $8.00 from November and down $14.00 from December 2007. The all hog price of $37.50 per cwt. for mid-December is up $1.70 from November and up $4.90 from last December. Sow prices averaged $45.70, up $8.10 from November and $25.60 higher than December 2007. Barrow and gilt prices averaged $36.30 per cwt. in mid-December, up 80 cents November and $1.80 above last December. Grain and oilseed prices by district are shown in the second table on the back of this release. UNITED STATES: The All Farm Products Index of Prices Received in December is 133 percent of the 1990-92 base, down 8 points from November and 9 points below December 2007. The December All Crops Index is 145, down 11 points from November and 5 points below December 2007. The December Livestock and Products Index, at 120, is down 4 points from last month and down 14 points from December 2007.
