The All Crops Index in June, at 199 percent of the 1990-92 base, is up 12 points from May but down 79 points from 2008. The Meat Animals Index, at 109 percent of the 1990-92 base, is down 2 points from May and 16 points below last year. More detailed information regarding price indexes is shown in the first table on the back of this release. Wheat prices in mid-June, at $5.80 per bushel, are down 5 cents from May and down $2.31 from last June. Corn prices in mid-June, at $3.86 per bushel, are down 7 cents from May and $2.40 below last June. Farmers received an average of $5.95 per cwt. for sorghum grain in mid-June, down 4 cents from May and $4.45 below last June. Soybean prices, at $11.60 per bushel in mid-June, are up $1.00 from May but $2.10 below last June. All hay prices averaged $109.00 per ton in mid-June, down $4.00 from May and $8.00 lower than last year. Alfalfa hay averaged $114.00 per ton, down $6.00 from May and $10.00 lower than last June. Other hay, at $82.00 per ton, is up $2.00 from May but $2.00 below last June. All beef cattle are bringing an average of $83.80 per cwt. in mid-June, down $1.30 from May and $12.40 below the price from last June. Cow prices, at $46.50 per cwt., are down $5.00 from May and $8.30 below the price from last June. Steers and heifers averaged $84.20 per cwt., down $2.30 from May and $12.40 below June 2008. Calf prices in mid-June are $112.00 per cwt., down $7.00 from May and down $11.00 from June 2008. The all hog price of $38.20 per cwt. for mid-June is down $1.50 from May and down $9.00 from last June. Sow prices averaged $38.20, down $7.20 from May but $9.70 higher than June 2008. Barrow and gilt prices averaged $38.20 per cwt. in mid-June, down 70 cents from May and $11.80 below last June. Grain and oilseed prices by district are shown in the second table on the back of this release. UNITED STATES: The All Farm Products Index of Prices Received in June is 135 percent of the 1990-92 base, up 5 points from May but 23 points below June 2008. The June All Crops Index is 162, up 12 points from May but 21 points below June 2008. The June Livestock and Products Index, at 112, is down 1 points from last month and down 25 points from June 2008.
