The All Crops Index in April, at 171 percent of the 1990-92 base, is up 4 points from March but down 88 points from 2008. The Meat Animals Index, at 110 percent of the 1990-92 base, is up 4 points from March but 6 points below last year. More detailed information regarding price indexes is shown in the first table on the back of this release. Wheat prices in mid-April, at $5.13 per bushel, is down 17 cents from March and down $4.27 from last April. Corn prices in mid-April, at $3.63 per bushel, is up 2 cents from March but $1.84 below last April. Farmers received an average of $5.55 per cwt. for sorghum grain in mid-April, up 21 cents from March but $3.78 below last April. Soybean prices, at $9.91 per bushel in mid-April, is up 97 cents from March but $2.39 below last April. All hay prices averaged $115.00 per ton in mid-April, up $2.00 from March and $13.00 higher than last year. Alfalfa hay averaged $117.00 per ton, down $5.00 from March but $13.00 higher than last April. Other hay, at $74.00 per ton, is down $3.00 from March and $6.00 below last April. All beef cattle is bringing an average of $85.40 per cwt. in mid-April, up $3.40 from March but $4.10 below the price from last April. Cow prices, at $47.50 per cwt., is up $1.20 from March but $5.00 below the price from last April. Steers and heifers averaged $87.00 per cwt., up $3.90 from March but $4.00 below April 2008. Calf prices in mid-April is $119.00 per cwt., up $6.00 from March but unchanged from April 2008. The all hog price of $37.80 per cwt. for mid-April is down $1.00 from March but up 90 cents from last April. Sow prices averaged $43.00, down $1.10 from March but $25.50 higher than April 2008. Barrow and gilt prices averaged $37.00 per cwt. in mid-April, down $1.00 from March and $2.80 below last April. Grain and oilseed prices by district are shown in the second table on the back of this release. UNITED STATES: The All Farm Products Index of Prices Received in April is 131 percent of the 1990-92 base, up 5 points from March but 15 points below April 2008. The April All Crops Index is 155, up 9 points from March but 14 points below April 2008. The April Livestock and Products Index, at 112, is up 3 points from last month but down 15 points from April 2008.
