The All Crops Index in September, at 142 percent of the 1990-92 base, is down 22 points from August and down 93 points from 2008. The Meat Animals Index, at 110 percent of the 1990-92 base, is unchanged points from August but 19 points below last year. More detailed information regarding price indexes is shown in the first table on the back of this release. Wheat prices in mid-September, at $3.87 per bushel, are down 87 cents from August and $3.42 below last September. Corn prices in mid-September, at $3.15 per bushel, are up 2 cents from August but $1.87 below last September. Farmers received an average of $4.71 per cwt. for grain sorghum in mid- September, down 12 cents from August and $3.18 below last September. Soybean prices, at $9.50 per bushel in mid-September, are down $1.20 from August and $1.90 below last September. All hay prices averaged $98.00 per ton in mid-September, down $1.00 from August and $23.00 lower than last year. Alfalfa hay averaged $103.00 per ton, unchanged from August but $31.00 lower than last September. Other hay, at $76.00 per ton, is unchanged from August but $17.00 below last September. All beef cattle were bringing an average of $85.90 per cwt. in mid-September, up 80 cents from August but $13.20 below the price last September. Cow prices, at $45.40 per cwt., are down $2.20 from August and $10.20 below the price last September. Steers and heifers averaged $86.70 per cwt., up $1.20 from August but $13.30 below September 2008. Calf prices in mid-September were $113.00 per cwt., down $3.00 from August and down $12.00 from September 2008. The all hog price of $33.70 per cwt. for mid-September is up 80 cents from August but down $15.50 from last September. Sow prices averaged $23.30, down $7.70 from August and $27.10 lower than September 2008. Barrow and gilt prices averaged $35.20 per cwt. in mid-September, up $2.00 from August but $13.80 below last September. Grain and oilseed prices by district are shown in the second table on the back of this release. UNITED STATES: The All Farm Products Index of Prices Received in September is 127 percent of the 1990-92 base, unchanged from August but 27 points below September 2008. The September All Crops Index, at 144, is down 3 points from August and 30 points below September 2008. The September Livestock and Products Index, at 108, is down 1 point from last month and down 25 points from September 2008.
