There were reports that weevils and grape colaspis had been found in some rice fields. Some southwestern rice producers were concerned about water salinity problems due to the dry weather. Some corn producers were irrigating due to the dry weather. Soybean producers were spraying herbicides. Sugarcane producers were lay-bying their fields and applying herbicides. The cotton crop was progressing well, with 25% at the squaring stage, well above the five year average of 17%. Fruits, Vegetables, and Specialty Crops Report Producers harvested tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, eggplants and bell peppers. Citrus producers scouted fields. Crawfish producers were draining ponds and making repairs for next year’s crop. Livestock, Pasture, and Range Report Cattle producers were clipping and fertilizing pastures and spraying for weeds. Some producers were reporting a good hay crop.
