Early planted rice started to head. Rice producers applied fungicides and insecticides. Some of the soybean producers held off herbicide applications due to the drought. Corn producers continued to irrigate due to the dry weather. Twenty-two percent of the corn was at the dough stage, slightly below the five year average of 30%. Six percent of sorghum had headed which was behind the five year average of 24%. Sugarcane producers continued to scout for borers. The cotton crop was progressing well, with 77% at the squaring stage, well above the five year average of 63%. Fruits, Vegetables, and Specialty Crops Report Producers harvested tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, eggplants and bell peppers. Citrus producers scouted fields. Peach producers began harvest of peaches. Crawfish producers continued to drain ponds. Livestock, Pasture, and Range Report Pastures and hay fields showed slow growth due to inadequate moisture levels.
