Field activities remained very limited due to saturated soil. Corn planted made little progress, only increasing 8 percent from last week. Planting of rice continued as some producers were having problems with blackbirds and ducks. Sugarcane producers were limited with field cultivation due to fields being too wet. Wheat producers began spraying fields to control rust. Fruits, Vegetables, and Specialty Crops Report Vegetable producers were limited with field work. Harvesting of strawberries continued. Watermelon producers began planting. Crawfish producers continued reporting good catches. Livestock, Pasture, and Range Report Warmer temperatures and rain continued to green up spring pastures. Cattlemen were weaning fall calves and culling cows. They were also busy with spring calving.
