Scattered showers returned later in the week, which again slowed field activities. Corn planting made excellent progress last week, increasing to 58 percent, but still behind last year and the 5 year average. Rice planting continued as conditions improved. Sorghum planting began. Sugarcane producers continued cultivating and fertilizing fields. Wheat producers continued spraying fields to control rust. Fruits, Vegetables, and Specialty Crops Report Vegetable producers were planting spring vegetables. Citrus producers were fertilizing trees. Crawfish harvesting continued and producers were still reporting good production. Livestock, Pasture, and Range Report Pasture conditions continued to improve with dryer weather conditions across the state. Cattlemen were fertilizing and applying weed control to spring pastures. Cattlemen continued to stay busy with spring calving, weaning fall calves and culling cows.
