la-crop-weather State Louisiana Crop Weather Week Ending Date November 27, 2005 Days suitable for fieldwork: 5.9 Soil moisture supplies: 26% very short, 29% short, 44% adequate and 1% surplus Field Crops Report Cooler temperatures and scattered showers late in the week improved crop conditions. Sugarcane harvesting continued with reports of better tonnage and sugar as producers began harvesting 1st year stubble. In some areas harvesting remained slow due to debris remaining in fields from the hurricanes. The recent showers improved soil moisture which allowed winter wheat producers to make excellent planting progress. The showers were also beneficial for winter wheat emergence. Fruits, Vegetables, and Specialty Crops Report Citrus producers were busy selling fruits. Vegetable producers continued harvesting and selling greens. Crawfish producers were struggling to get enough water to flood ponds. Livestock, Pasture, and Range Report The recent showers continued to improve pasture conditions. Cattlemen were busy planting ryegrass, and the recent showers should help with germination. Cattlemen were fertilizing pastures as weather permitted.
