mi-crop-weather State Michigan Crop Weather Released October 3, 2005 Week Ending Date October 2, 2005 Issue MI-CW4105 Agricultural Summary Rains Continued Across State Five days were suitable for fieldwork during the week ending October 2, according to the USDA, NASS, Michigan Field Office. Precipitation amounts ranged from 0.32 inches in the central Lower Peninsula to 1.57 inches in the eastern Upper Peninsula. Rains continued across the State; improving soil moisture, pasture conditions, and wheat emergence. Hot weather helped crops mature. A farmer in the southeast said, "All corn is 'dead ripe' and with the heat of some afternoons, it should be dry." Another farmer from the southwest mentioned, "Planting started very early, on April 10, and now harvest has started very early, on September12." Field Crops Report Field Crops Corn continued to be harvested. Recent warm temperatures helped to dry down corn. Corn silage harvest was winding down. Soybean harvest continued. Alfalfa and pastures were greening up from recent rains, some for the first time in months. For sugarbeets, harvest continued. Piling will begin when cooler temperatures arrive. Dry beans harvest continued. Winter wheat planting continued. Emergence was good with the recent rains.
