mi-crop-weather State Michigan Crop Weather Released November 14, 2005 Week Ending Date November 13, 2005 Issue MI-CW4705 Agricultural Summary Warm and Windy Five days were suitable for fieldwork during the week ending November 13, according to the USDA, NASS, Michigan Field Office. Precipitation amounts ranged from 0.32 inches in the southwest Lower Peninsula to 0.86 inches in the south central Lower Peninsula. Average temperatures ranged from 5 degrees above normal in the northeast Lower Peninsula to 9 degrees above normal in the south central Lower Peninsula. High gusty winds capped off a warm week. A reporter in the southeast said, "Nearly all crops have been harvested by now and some fall tillage was done. Moisture is still below normal for this time of year. The weather has been volatile with many gusty wind fronts, but they haven't brought a lot of rain with them." A reporter from the northwest added, "Dry conditions continue, a little drizzle during the week but nothing significant. Fall manure hauling and tillage is finished, a little corn being run yet by those who waited for dry down to try and avoid drying." Field Crops Report Field Crops Corn harvest was nearly complete; rain delayed progress in some areas. Some damage was noted from high wind gusts in remaining fields. Soybean harvest was wrapped up. Sugarbeet harvest progressed with most growers finishing up during the week. Vegetables Harvest of vegetable crops wrapped up for the year. Fall tillage and equipment repairs were well underway by most growers. Last Issue for 2005 This concludes the 2005 Crop-Weather season. Reports will resume in late April 2006.
