mi-crop-weather State Michigan Crop Weather Released November 20, 2006 Week Ending Date November 19, 2006 Issue MI-CW4606 Agricultural Summary Cool and Wet Four days were suitable for fieldwork during the week ending November 19, according to the USDA, NASS, Michigan Field Office. Average temperatures ranged from 4 degrees below normal in the southwest Lower Peninsula to 1 degree above normal in the Upper Peninsula. Farmers harvested crops when field conditions permitted. A farmer in the southeast mentioned that, "We had cold weather all week with a soaking rain in the middle of the week and a couple of dustings of snow late in the week. This kept harvest going at a slow pace." A farmer in the northeast said that, "Producers are waiting for drier conditions or a freeze to wrap up harvest." Field Crops Report Field Crops Harvest was limited due to rain and snow. Corn and soybean harvest continued, but the pace was still behind normal. Sugarbeet harvest neared completion. Winter wheat emergence was behind the average due to cold and wet conditions. Vegetables Harvest of most vegetable crops was completed for the year. Some growers began fall tillage and equipment storage for the winter.
