mi-crop-weather State Michigan Crop Weather Released November 5, 2007 Week Ending Date November 4, 2007 Issue MI-CW4407 Agricultural Summary Good Harvest Weather Six days were suitable for fieldwork during the week ending November 4, according to the USDA, NASS, Michigan Field Office. Precipitation varied from none in the west central Lower Peninsula to 0.37 inches in the eastern Lower Peninsula. Average temperatures ranged from 1 degree below normal in the southwest, south central, and southeast Lower Peninsula to 4 degrees above normal in the western Upper Peninsula. Many farmers across the state took advantage of the fair weather and completed harvesting their various crops. A farmer in the west central mentioned that, "It was a good week for outside work with seasonal temperatures and no rain but it is becoming very dusty." A reporter in the southeast said that, "Farmers switched back to finish up soybeans. Some are through with all fall harvest. The weather has been very cooperative this fall." Field Crops Report Field Crops Favorable weather conditions continued to be conducive to fall harvest activities across the State. Corn harvest progressed. Soybean harvest neared completion. Harvest of sugarbeets progressed. Alfalfa harvest fourth cuttings were nearly completed. Winter wheat planting was completed; emergence was good and ahead of normal. Growers began equipment repair and continued fall tillage activities. Vegetables Seasonal temperatures and little rainfall were ideal for harvest. Carrot harvest continued. Winter squash harvest continued.
