mi-crop-weather State Michigan Crop Weather Released November 13, 2007 Week Ending Date November 11, 2007 Issue MI-CW4507 Agricultural Summary Harvest Winding Down Five days were suitable for fieldwork during the week ending November 11, according to the USDA, NASS, Michigan Field Office. Precipitation varied from 0.08 inches in the central Lower Peninsula to 1.13 inches in the eastern Upper Peninsula. Average temperatures ranged from 3 degrees below normal in the southwest Lower Peninsula to 1 degree below normal in the eastern Upper Peninsula, northwest, central, and east central Lower Peninsula. The harvest of various crops around the State has been completed in many fields. A reporter in the central region mentioned that, "I have never got this much soil sampling done before deer season in the past years. This has been a great fall compared to last year." A farmer in the south central said that, "A remarkable open fall season in our area has allowed the most fall tillage to be completed in many years. Temperatures have been cold enough to send hay and pastures into full dormancy." Field Crops Report Field Crops Harvest activities continued at a steady pace across the State. Corn harvest progressed and was completed in some areas. Soybean harvest was completed in many areas. Harvest of sugarbeets progressed. Alfalfa harvest fourth cutting was completed in most areas. Winter wheat emergence continued to be good and at a pace ahead of normal. Vegetables Late season harvest continued with normal temperatures and precipitation. Processing carrot and winter squash harvest continued, but behind normal. Celery harvest was completed.
