mi-crop-weather State Michigan Crop Weather Released November 19, 2007 Week Ending Date November 18, 2007 Issue MI-CW4607 Agricultural Summary Seasonal Temperatures Six days were suitable for fieldwork during the week ending November 18, according to the USDA, NASS, Michigan Field Office. Precipitation varied from none in the central Lower Peninsula to 0.20 inches in the southeastern Lower Peninsula. Average temperatures ranged from no departure from normal in the west central, southwest, south central, and southeast Lower Peninsula to 1 degree above normal in the western and eastern Upper Peninsula, northwest, northeast, central, and east central Lower Peninsula. The past week of colder weather with little snow enabled farmers to continue corn harvest. A reporter in the west central mentioned that, "It was a pretty good November week with little precipitation that allowed for a full week of outside activity if you could sustain the winds." A farmer in the south central said that, "The mild weather has allowed for a record amount of fall tillage work and substantial growth on the recently planted wheat in our region." Field Crops Report Field Crops Harvest of field crops was winding down as fall tillage and equipment repair were becoming the primary activities across the State. Corn harvest continued to progress. Soybean harvest was wrapped up. Sugarbeet harvest progressed as most growers finished up during the week. Alfalfa harvest fourth cutting continued in some areas. Winter wheat generally looked good. Vegetables Harvest of most vegetable crops was completed for the year. Fall tillage and preparation of farm equipment for the winter were the major activities.
