mi-crop-weather State Michigan Crop Weather Released November 7, 2011 Week Ending Date November 6, 2011 Issue MI-CW4511 Agricultural Summary Working to Finish Harvesting Five days were suitable for fieldwork during the week ended November 6, according to the USDA, NASS, Michigan Field Office. Precipitation ranged from 0.10 to 0.30 inches in the Upper Peninsula, and ranged from 0.01 to 0.84 inches in the Lower Peninsula. Temperatures ranged from 3 to 4 degrees above normal in the Upper Peninsula, and normal to 2 degrees above normal in the Lower Peninsula. Minimal precipitation in the southern Lower Peninsula allowed for a decent week of field activities. Producers were eager to catch up after being stalled by previous wet weather. Field activities included fall tillage, manure hauling, winter wheat planting, fourth cutting of hay, and harvesting of corn, soybeans, sugarbeets, and potatoes. Field Crops Report Field Crops Good fall weather allowed harvest to progress nicely this past week. Corn harvest was slightly behind the five year average. Many farmers took advantage of the weather and harvested their crop, while some were still waiting for the crop to dry down. Soybean harvest was nearing completion. Wheat planting was virtually complete. Growers made significant advances in sugarbeet harvest.
