mi-crop-weather State Michigan Crop Weather Released November 21, 2011 Week Ending Date November 20, 2011 Issue MI-CW4711 Agricultural Summary Working to Complete Harvest Five days were suitable for fieldwork during the week ended November 20, according to the USDA, NASS, Michigan Field Office. Precipitation ranged from 0.30 to 0.82 inches in the Upper Peninsula, and ranged from 0.02 to 0.45 inches in the Lower Peninsula. Weather allowed farmers to continue with fall activities, but some wet soils hindered harvest and other fieldwork in certain areas. Field Crops Report Field Crops Corn harvest continued and was now slightly ahead of the 5-year average. Strong winds in northern Michigan on Friday caused some lodging in unharvested fields. Soybean harvest was nearly complete. Some fields in southeast Michigan are left to be harvested. Farmers continued with fall tillage where conditions allowed. Manure spreading, liming, and fall fertilizer application continued.
