mi-crop-weather State Michigan Crop Weather Released October 22, 2012 Week Ending Date October 21, 2012 Issue MI-CW4312 Agricultural Summary Field Crops Three days were suitable for field work last week. Wet weather was pervasive late in the week and hampered harvest activities. Temperatures ranged from 1 to 2 degrees above normal in the Upper Peninsula and 2 degrees below normal to 1 degree above normal in the Lower Peninsula. Precipitation ranged from 0.62 to 0.90 inches in the Upper Peninsula and 0.55 to 1.70 inches in the Lower Peninsula. Soybean harvest continued where weather allowed. Some growers switched to harvesting corn to allow soybeans the chance to dry out before starting harvest again. Sugarbeet harvest slowed. Piling did not begin as planned due to warmer than ideal soil conditions. Piling is expected to begin late this week. Dry bean harvest was nearly complete. Winter wheat planting continued. Emergence was aided by the slow, steady rains received last week.
