Johnson, Director December 1 Grain Stocks On December 1, 2011, Michigan corn stocks totaled 270.5 million bushels, 9 percent higher than a year earlier, according to the USDA, NASS, Michigan Field Office. About 74 percent of the corn was stored on farms. The first quarter disappearance was 90.0 million bushels, compared with 92.1 million bushels a year earlier. Soybean stocks on December 1, 2011, were 65.2 million bushels. That was 21 percent higher than stocks a year earlier. The first quarter indicated disappearance was 25.7 million bushels, compared with 39.3 million bushels during the same period in 2010. Farm stocks of soybeans were 31.0 million bushels. Wheat stocks on December 1, 2011, were 44.0 million bushels, 19 percent above year ago. Approximately 94 percent of wheat stocks were in commercial storage. Second quarter indicated disappearance was 9.4 million bushels, compared with 6.0 million bushels during the same period last year. U.S. corn stocks in all positions on December 1, 2011, totaled 9.64 billion bushels, down 4 percent from December 1, 2010. Of the total stocks, 6.18 billion bushels were stored on farms, down 2 percent from a year earlier. Off-farm stocks, 3.47 billion bushels, were down 8 percent from a year ago. The September - November 2011 indicated disappearance was 3.84 billion bushels, compared with 4.10 billion bushels during the same period last year. Soybeans stored in all positions on December 1, 2011, totaled 2.37 billion bushels, up 4 percent from December 1, 2010. Soybean stocks stored on farms totaled 1.14 billion bushels, up 4 percent from a year ago. Off-farm stocks, 1.23 billion bushels, were up 3 percent from last December. Indicated disappearance for September - November 2011 totaled 905 million bushels, down 25 percent from the same period a year earlier. All wheat stored in all positions on December 1, 2011, totaled 1.66 billion bushels, down 14 percent from a year ago. On-farm stocks were estimated at 405 million bushels, down 26 percent from last December. Off-farm stocks, 1.25 billion bushels, were down 10 percent from a year ago. The September - November 2011 indicated disappearance was 490 million bushels, down 5 percent from the same period a year earlier.
