Johnson, Director 2011 Crop Values Summary The preliminary farm value of Michigan field crops and vegetables produced in 2011 was approximately $4.51 billion, according to the USDA, NASS, Michigan Field Office. Fruit and nut crops are not included in this total. Due to program changes necessitated by the 2011 Federal budget, fruit and nut crop value will not be published until February 2013. Some Michigan highlights from the report follow: * Corn for grain value increased 15.7 percent to $2.03 billion in 2011; the average price increased $0.49 per bushel. * Soybean value at $990 million was up 0.5 percent from 2010. The average price was up $0.50 per bushel. * Hay value was $283 million, up 1.7 percent from a year earlier; the average price was up $0.50 per ton. * Wheat value increased 67.3 percent to $342 million; the average price was up $0.98 per bushel. * Dry bean value, at $154 million, was up 15 percent from last year, while the average price was up $14.20 per cwt. Nationally: * U.S. corn for grain value increased 18.3 percent to $76.5 billion in 2011. * Soybean value in the U.S. was down 4.7 percent to $35.8 billion.
