Johnson, Director June 1 Grain Stocks On June 1, 2012, Michigan corn stocks totaled 88.7 million bushels, 7 percent higher than a year earlier, according to Jay Johnson, Director of USDA, NASS, Michigan Field Office. About 52 percent of the corn was stored on farms. The third quarter disappearance was 63.6 million bushels, compared with 58.5 million bushels a year earlier. Soybean stocks on June 1, 2012, were 21.1 million bushels. That was 25 percent higher than stocks a year earlier. The third quarter indicated disappearance was 20.4 million bushels, compared with 16.8 million bushels during the same period in 2011. Farm stocks of soybeans were 5.1 million bushels. Wheat stocks on June 1, 2012, were 25.0 million bushels, 18 percent above year ago. Approximately 98 percent of wheat stocks were in commercial storage. Fourth quarter indicated disappearance was 11.4 million bushels, compared with 9.5 million bushels during the same period last year. U.S. corn stocks in all positions on June 1, 2012, totaled 3.15 billion bushels, down 14 percent from June 1, 2011. Of the total stocks, 1.48 billion bushels were stored on farms, down 12 percent from a year earlier. Off-farm stocks, 1.67 billion bushels, were down 16 percent from a year ago. The March - May 2012 indicated disappearance was 2.87 billion bushels, compared with 2.85 billion bushels during the same period last year. Soybeans stored in all positions on June 1, 2012, totaled 667 million bushels, up 8 percent from June 1, 2011. Soybean stocks stored on farms totaled 179 million bushels, down 18 percent from a year ago. Off-farm stocks, 488 million bushels, were up 22 percent from last June. Indicated disappearance for March - May 2012 totaled 707 million bushels, up 12 percent from the same period a year earlier. All old crop wheat stored in all positions on June 1, 2012, totaled 743 million bushels, down 14 percent from a year ago. On-farm stocks were estimated at 112 million bushels, down 14 percent from last June. Off-farm stocks, 631 million bushels, were down 14 percent from a year ago. The March- May 2012 indicated disappearance was 457 million bushels, down 19 percent from the same period a year earlier.
