Johnson, Director Fruit Inventory Results for Peaches Results from the 2011 Michigan Fruit Inventory have been compiled for peaches. This inventory of commercial fruit farms was conducted by the USDA, NASS, Michigan Field Office. There were 360 peach farms at the end of the 2011 season, down from 440 in 2006. There were 4,000 acres of peaches at the conclusion of 2011, down 800 acres since 2006. There were 680 acres of peaches planted from 2007 through 2011. The top two counties in peach acres, Oceana and Berrien, accounted for 67 percent of all acres. About 36 percent of the peach acres were non-melting flesh varieties, which are used principally for processing. That percentage was down slightly from 37 percent at the end of 2006.
