Johnson, Director November Milk Production Dairy herds in Michigan produced 718 million pounds of milk during November, up 4.4 percent from a year ago, according to Jay Johnson, Director of the USDA, NASS, Michigan Field Office. The daily rate per cow was 63.8 pounds, up 1.6 pounds from November 2011. The dairy herd was estimated at 375,000 head for November, up 6,000 from a year earlier. Milk production in the 23 major States during November totaled 14.9 billion pounds, up 1.1 percent from November 2011. The daily production per cow in the 23 major States averaged 58.6 pounds for November, up 0.6 pounds from November 2011. The number of milk cows on farms in the 23 major States was 8.47 million head, 3,000 head less than November 2011 but 8,000 head more than October 2012.
