Johnson, Director December 1 Grain Stocks On December 1, 2012, Michigan corn stocks totaled 235.2 million bushels, 13 percent lower than a year earlier, according to Jay Johnson, Director of USDA, NASS, Michigan Field Office. About 66 percent of the corn was stored on farms. The first quarter disappearance was 107.5 million bushels, compared with 90.0 million bushels a year earlier. Soybean stocks on December 1, 2012, were 53.6 million bushels. That was 18 percent lower than stocks a year earlier. The first quarter indicated disappearance was 35.8 million bushels, compared with 25.7 million bushels during the same period in 2011. Farm stocks of soybeans were 25.0 million bushels. Wheat stocks on December 1, 2012, were 33.0 million bushels, 26 percent below a year ago. Approximately 95 percent of wheat stocks were in commercial storage. Second quarter indicated disappearance was 5.8 million bushels, compared with 9.0 million bushels during the same period last year. U.S. corn stocks in all positions on December 1, 2012, totaled 8.03 billion bushels, down 17 percent from December 1, 2011. Of the total stocks, 4.59 billion bushels were stored on farms, down 26 percent from a year earlier. Off-farm stocks, 3.44 billion bushels, were down 1 percent from a year ago. The September-November 2012 indicated disappearance was 3.74 billion bushels, compared with 3.84 billion bushels during the same period last year. Soybeans stored in all positions on December 1, 2012, totaled 1.97 billion bushels, down 17 percent from December 1, 2011. Soybean stocks stored on farms totaled 910 million bushels, down 20 percent from a year ago. Off-farm stocks, 1.06 billion bushels, were down 14 percent from last December. Indicated disappearance for September-November 2012 totaled a record high 1.22 billion bushels, up 30 percent from the same period a year earlier. All wheat stored in all positions on December 1, 2012, totaled 1.66 billion bushels, down slightly from a year ago. On-farm stocks were estimated at 400 million bushels, down 1 percent from last December. Off-farm stocks, 1.26 billion bushels, were up slightly from a year ago. The September-November 2012 indicated disappearance was 445 million bushels, down 8 percent from the same period a year earlier.
