Johnson, Director 2012 Crop Values Summary The preliminary farm value of Michigan field crops, fruits, and vegetables produced in 2012 was $5.27 billion, up 3 percent from 2011. Higher prices for many commodities more than offset lower production, according to Jay Johnson, Director of the USDA, NASS, Michigan Field Office. Some Michigan highlights from the report follow: * Corn for grain value increased 9.7 percent to $2.257 billion in 2012. The average price increased $0.96 per bushel. * Soybean value of $1.19 billion was up 16.0 percent from 2011. The average price was up $1.90 per bushel. * Wheat value decreased 3.4 percent to $330 million. The average price was up $1.34 per bushel. * Dry bean value,$139 million, was down 9.3 percent from last year. The average price was down $6.20 per cwt. * Vegetable value increased 1.2 percent to $250 million. * Fruit value fell by 52.6 percent to $208 million. Nationally: * U.S. corn for grain value increased 0.5 percent to $77.4 billion in 2012. * Soybean value in the U.S. was up 12.2 percent to $43.2 billion.
