mn-crop-weather State Minnesota Weekly Crop-Weather Week Ending Date Week Ending May 13, 2007 Issue MN-CW-19-07 Agricultural Summary Planting of Minnesota's sugarbeet acreage was nearly complete as of Sunday, May 13th, according to USDA, NASS, Minnesota Field Office. Planting of spring wheat, oats, and barley were more than 90% complete. Warm weather this past week boosted soil temperatures across the state and advanced emergence of the small grain and corn crops ahead of the five-year average. The average temperature for the week was 61.6 degrees, 7.4 degrees above normal. Statewide topsoil moisture supplies as of Friday were rated 3 percent very short, 17 short, 70 adequate, and 10 surplus. Field Crops Summary As of Sunday, an estimated 88 percent of corn acreage was planted and 45 percent emerged, compared to the five-year average of 84 percent planted and 16 percent emerged. Soybean planting was 45 percent complete compared to 32 percent for the average. Sugarbeet planting was 96 percent complete, compared to 85 percent for the average. Spring wheat acreage was 93 percent planted and 55 percent emerged compared to the average of 78 planted and 39 percent emerged. Oat acreage was 92 percent planted, and 66 percent emerged. Potato planting was 70 percent complete, compared to 71 percent for the average. Green Pea planting was 72 percent complete, compared to 63 percent for the average. Pasture was rated at 65 percent in Good or Excellent condition. Alfalfa was rated at 63 percent Good or Excellent condition.
