mn-crop-weather State Minnesota Weekly Crop-Weather Week Ending Date Week Ending May 20, 2007 Issue MN-CW-20-07 Agricultural Summary Minnesota's corn crop emerged rapidly this past week as soil temperatures continued to climb, according to USDA, NASS, Minnesota Field Office. An estimated 40 percent of the state's corn crop emerged this past week while soybeans, sunflower and canola plantings continued well ahead of the five-year average pace. Topsoil moisture supplies fell during the week as little precipitation was received. The average temperature for the week was 58.7 degrees, 1.8 degrees above normal. Statewide topsoil moisture supplies as of Friday were rated 8 percent very short, 35 short, 56 adequate, and 1 surplus. As of Sunday May 20th, an estimated 82 percent of corn acreage was emerged, compared to the five-year average of 42 percent. Soybean planting was 85 percent complete compared to 53 percent average. Spring wheat acreage was 82 percent emerged compared to 59 percent average. Potato planting was 94 percent complete, compared to 80 percent average. Green pea planting was 87 complete, compared to74 percent average. Pasture was rated at 55 percent in Good or Excellent condition. Alfalfa was rated at 60 percent Good or Excellent condition.
