mn-crop-weather State Minnesota Weekly Crop-Weather Week Ending Date Week Ending May 27, 2007 Issue MN-CW-21-07 Agricultural Summary Scattered rain showers across the state boosted topsoil moisture supplies this past week, according to USDA, NASS, Minnesota Field Office. Winds and wet field conditions delayed post emergence spraying progress in many locations. Crop condition ratings showed improvement in small grains and pasture due to the rain. The average temperature for the week was 58.3 degrees, 1.0 degrees below normal. Statewide topsoil moisture supplies as of Friday were rated 5 percent very short, 19 short, 70 adequate, and 6 surplus. Field Crops Summary As of Sunday May 27th, an estimated 95 percent of corn acreage was emerged, compared to the five-year average of 71 percent. Corn height was estimated at 4 inches, compared to 1 inch for the average. Soybeans planted were 94 percent complete, with 62 percent emerged, compared to the average of 76 percent planted and 24 percent emerged. Spring wheat acreage was 98 percent emerged with 4 percent jointed, compared to the average of 77 percent emerged and 3 percent jointed. Sweet corn was 65 percent planted, compared to 53 percent average. Sunflowers were 95 percent planted compared to 52 percent average. Eighty-two percent of field corn was rated in Good or Excellent condition. Pasture and alfalfa were both rated at 61 percent in Good or Excellent condition.
