mn-crop-weather State Minnesota Weekly Crop-Weather Week Ending Date Week Ending June 3, 2007 Issue MN-CW-22-07 Agricultural Summary Minnesota crops progressed normally during the week, maintaining the pace ahead of the five-year average, according to USDA, NASS, Minnesota Field Office. Above normal temperatures and mostly adequate soil moisture, aided crop development with exception of a few pockets of heavy rain. Herbicide applications were underway where field conditions and calm weather permitted. General crop conditions across the state improved slightly from last week. The average temperature for the week was 64.8 degrees, 3.3 degrees above normal. Statewide topsoil moisture supplies as of Friday were rated 1 percent very short, 12 short, 76 adequate, and 11 surplus. Field Crops Summary As of Sunday June 3rd, the average corn height was estimated at 8 inches, compared to the five-year average of 3 inches. Soybeans were 87 percent emerged, compared to 56 percent average. Spring wheat acreage was 23 percent jointed, compared to 11 percent average. Sweet corn was 78 percent planted, compared to 64 percent average. Dry beans were 90 percent planted, compared to 73 percent average. Eighty-seven percent of field corn was rated in Good or Excellent condition. Seventy-seven percent of soybeans were rated in Good or Excellent condition. Pasture improved slightly to 69 percent Good or Excellent condition.
