mn-crop-weather State Minnesota Weekly Crop-Weather Week Ending Date Week Ending July 1, 2007 Issue MN-CW-26-07 Agricultural Summary Topsoil moisture supplies declined this past week as very little precipitation was received across the state, according to USDA, NASS, Minnesota Field Office. The dry weather also brought declining crop conditions with exception of the northwest corner of the state where conditions improved. Small grains headed rapidly, about 7 days ahead of the average pace, and alfalfa first cutting was mostly completed at 97 percent, more than 10 days ahead of the five-year average pace. The average temperature for the week was 67.9 degrees, 0.1 degrees below normal. Statewide topsoil moisture supplies as of Friday were rated 10 percent very short, 34 short, 51 adequate, and 5 surplus. Field Crops Summary As of Sunday July 1st, the state average corn height was 54 inches, compared to 31 inches average. Soybean height was 13 inches, compared to 9 inches average. Spring wheat acreage was 89 percent headed, compared to the average of 55 percent. Sixty-nine percent of spring wheat was rated in Good or Excellent condition, a slight decline from a week ago. Seventy-four percent of field corn and 73 percent of soybeans were rated in Good or Excellent condition. Green peas were rated at 76 percent Good or Excellent while pasture conditions declined to 48 percent Good or Excellent.
