mn-crop-weather State Minnesota Weekly Crop-Weather Week Ending Date Week Ending July 29, 2007 Issue MN-CW-30-07 Agricultural Summary Crop conditions continued to decline amid the heat and dry weather, with only few spotty showers recorded during the week, according to USDA, NASS, Minnesota Field Office. Topsoil moisture supplies continued downward with only 21 percent of the state rated as adequate; mostly in the northwest corner of the state. Blooming of Minnesota's soybean crop was slowed amid dry conditions causing development to slip behind the five-year average pace. The average temperature for the week was 75.9 degrees, 5.6 degrees above normal. Statewide topsoil moisture supplies as of Friday were rated 46 percent very short, 32 short, 21 adequate, and 1 surplus. Field Crops Summary As of Sunday July 29th, forty-nine percent of corn acreage was in the milk stage compared to 17 percent for the five year average. Soybeans were 88 percent blooming compared to 89 percent average. Ninety-one percent of spring wheat acreage was turning ripe, with 12 percent combined. Oats were 96 percent turning ripe, with 52 percent combined. As of Friday, July 27th, thirty percent of field corn and 38 percent of soybeans were rated in Good or Excellent condition. Sixty-one percent of spring wheat was rated in Good or Excellent condition. Sunflower conditions were rated 66 percent Good or Excellent, and only 13 percent of pasture was rated in Good or Excellent condition.
