mn-crop-weather State Minnesota Weekly Crop-Weather Week Ending Date Week Ending September 30, 2007 Issue MN-CW-39-07 Agricultural Summary Precipitation earlier in the week slowed the soybean harvest only shortly as progress continued ahead of the average pace, according to USDA, NASS, Minnesota Field Office. While pockets of heavy rain fell in the southern portions of the state, harvest of potatoes and soybeans and corn continued strong in the northwest portion of the state. Average moisture content of Corn and soybeans declined despite precipitation. Topsoil moisture supplies were 83 percent adequate or surplus, and crop condition ratings were generally unchanged from the previous week. The average temperature for the week was 59.3 degrees, 5.2 degrees above normal. Statewide topsoil moisture supplies as of Friday were rated 3 percent very short, 14 short, 73 adequate, and 10 surplus. Field Crops Summary As of Sunday, Sept 30th, 96 percent of corn was mature, compared to 75 percent average. Fifteen percent of corn was harvested for grain compared to 5 percent average, and corn cut for silage was 96 percent complete, compared to 83 percent average. Ninety-five percent of soybeans were mature compared to 75 percent average, and 40 percent were harvested compared to 26 percent average. As of Friday, Sept 28th, 46 percent of field corn and 55 percent of soybean were rated in good or excellent condition. Thirty-four percent of pasture, 67 percent of sugarbeets, and 63 percent of sunflowers were rated in good or excellent condition.
