mn-crop-weather State Minnesota Weekly Crop-Weather Week Ending Date Week Ending October 7, 2007 Issue MN-CW-40-07 Agricultural Summary One-third of Minnesota's soybean crop was harvested last week despite interruptions from bouts of precipitation, according to USDA, NASS, Minnesota Field Office. Harvest progress for both corn and soybeans remained ahead of the five-year average pace despite rains that left 22 percent of the state's topsoil moisture supply rated surplus. Pasture conditions were noticeably improved while sugarbeet conditions declined. The average temperature for the week was 61.5 degrees, 9.9 degrees above normal. Statewide topsoil moisture supplies as of Friday were rated 2 percent very short, 10 short, 66 adequate, and 22 surplus. Field Crops Summary As of Sunday, Oct 7th, twenty-five percent of corn for grain was harvested compared to 10 percent average. Moisture content of corn harvested for grain was estimated at 20 percent compared to 23 percent average. Seventy-four percent of soybeans were harvested compared to 50 percent average. Moisture content of soybeans harvested was estimated at 12 percent. As of Friday, Oct 5th, 46 percent of field corn and 57 percent of soybeans were rated in good or excellent condition. Forty-five percent of pasture, 58 percent of sugarbeets, and 65 percent of sunflowers were rated in good or excellent condition.
