mn-crop-weather State Minnesota Weekly Crop-Weather Week Ending Date Week Ending October 14, 2007 Issue MN-CW-41-07 Agricultural Summary More rain and wet field conditions slowed harvest progress during the past week, according to USDA, NASS, Minnesota Field Office. With only 3.7 days suitable for fieldwork across the state, precipitation limited harvest progress for soybeans, potatoes, and dry edible beans. The corn harvest however, progressed rapidly with nearly one-fourth of the crop being taken during the week. Topsoil moisture supplies continued to rise with nearly 75 percent of the state rated as adequate. Crop condition ratings improved for both sugarbeets and pasture. The average temperature for the week was 47.8 degrees, 0.8 degrees below normal. Statewide topsoil moisture supplies as of Friday were rated 0 percent very short, 4 short, 73 adequate, and 23 surplus. Field Crops Summary As of Sunday, Oct 14th, forty-seven percent of corn for grain was harvested compared to 24 percent average. Moisture content of corn harvested for grain was estimated at 19 percent compared to 21 percent average. Eighty-four percent of soybeans were harvested compared to 73 percent average. Moisture content of soybeans harvested was estimated at 13 percent, compared with 12 percent average. Sugarbeets were 72 percent harvested, compared to 73 percent average. As of Friday, Oct 12th, 47 percent of field corn was rated in good or excellent condition. Fifty percent of pasture, 69 percent of sugarbeets, and 73 percent of sunflowers were rated in good or excellent condition.
