mn-crop-weather State Minnesota Weekly Crop-Weather Week Ending Date Week Ending October 21, 2007 Issue MN-CW-42-07 Agricultural Summary Harvest progress slowed to a standstill this past week, as wet field conditions prohibited farm activity in many areas of the state, according to USDA, NASS, Minnesota Field Office. Surplus soil moisture supply ratings covered more than half the state's cropland as showers drifted across Minnesota, leaving behind 1 to 3 inches of new moisture. There was an average of only 1.1 days suitable for fieldwork during the week. The average temperature for the week was 50.8 degrees, 5.4 degrees above normal. Statewide topsoil moisture supplies as of Friday were rated 0 percent very short, 1 short, 45 adequate, and 54 surplus. Field Crops Summary Harvest of soybeans fell behind the five-year average pace and the corn harvest progressed only slightly. As of Sunday, Oct 21st, fifty-two percent of corn for grain was harvested compared to 45 percent average. Moisture content of corn harvested for grain was estimated at 19 percent compared to 20 percent average. Eighty-six percent of soybeans were harvested compared to 89 percent average. Moisture content of soybeans harvested was estimated at 14 percent, compared with 12 percent average. Sugarbeets were 80 percent harvested, compared to 92 percent average. As of Friday, Oct 19th, 48 percent of field corn was rated in good or excellent condition. Fifty-one percent of pasture, and 74 percent of sunflowers were rated in good or excellent condition.
