mn-crop-weather State Minnesota Weekly Crop-Weather Week Ending Date Week Ending May 25, 2008 Issue MN-CW-21-08 Agricultural Summary Minnesota producers planted nearly half of the state's soybeans last week, according to USDA, NASS, Minnesota Field Office. Favorable weather conditions allowed an uninterrupted week of fieldwork in most areas. Statewide, on average, there were 6.1 days suitable for fieldwork during the week. As of May 25th, plantings of corn, potatoes, and small grains were almost complete. The average temperature for the week was 54.9 degrees, 3.8 degrees below normal. Statewide topsoil moisture supplies as of Friday were rated 1 percent very short, 8 short, 81 adequate, and 10 surplus. Field Crops Summary As of Sunday, May 25th, corn planted was 95 percent complete compared to 99 percent last year and 96 percent for the 5-year average. Corn was 34 percent emerged compared to 91 percent last year and 74 percent average. Land prepared for soybean planting was 85 percent complete compared to 98 percent last year and 91 percent average. Soybeans were 72 percent planted compared to 91 percent last year and 73 percent average. Spring wheat was 71 percent emerged compared to 93 percent last year and 81 percent average. Oats were 69 percent emerged compared to 94 percent last year and 87 percent average. Barley was 73 percent emerged compared to 94 percent last year and 78 percent average. Pasture conditions were rated 32 percent fair, 47 percent good, and 9 percent excellent. Alfalfa conditions were rated 29 percent fair, 49 percent good, and 14 percent excellent.
