mn-crop-weather State Minnesota Weekly Crop-Weather Week Ending Date Week Ending August 10, 2008 Issue MN-CW-32-08 Agricultural Summary Corn and soybean development continued to advance and small grains neared maturity during the past week, according to USDA, NASS, Minnesota Field Office. Corn silking advanced 14 percentage points and soybeans blooming advanced eight percentage points from last week. The average temperature for the week was 68.6 degrees, 1.0 degrees below normal. Statewide topsoil moisture supplies as of Friday, August 8th were 12 percent very short, 29 short, 57 adequate, and 2 surplus. Statewide, on average, there were 6.4 days suitable for fieldwork during the week. Field Crops Summary As of Sunday, August 10th, 35 percent of corn was in milk stage compared to 89 percent last year and 71 percent average. Four percent of corn was in dough stage compared to 47 percent last year and 25 percent average. Soybeans were 62 percent setting pods compared to 87 percent last year and 81 percent average. Spring wheat was 7 percent harvested compared to 49 percent last year and 36 percent average. Barley was 19 percent harvested compared to 81 percent last year and 56 percent average. Oats were 35 percent harvested compared to 87 percent last year and 67 percent average. As of Friday, August 8th, 68 percent of corn and 71 percent of soybeans were rated in good or excellent condition. Eighty-three percent of spring wheat and barley, and 71 percent of oats were rated in good or excellent condition. Sixty-nine percent of dry beans, 78 percent of sunflowers, 75 percent of canola, and 46 percent of pasture were rated in good or excellent condition.
