mn-crop-weather State Minnesota Weekly Crop-Weather Week Ending Date Week Ending November 2, 2008 Issue MN-CW-44-08 Agricultural Summary Soybean harvest was almost complete throughout Minnesota as of Sunday, November 2nd, according to USDA, NASS, Minnesota Field Office. In the Red River Valley, surplus soil moisture limited harvest progress. Meanwhile, corn harvest across the state advanced 24 percentage points during the past week. Sugarbeet and sunflower harvests also progressed steadily. The average temperature for the week was 42.1 degrees, 3.2 degrees above normal. Statewide topsoil moisture supplies as of Friday, October 31st, were 1 percent very short, 9 short, 79 adequate, and 11 surplus. Statewide, on average, there were 5.4 days suitable for fieldwork during the week. Field Crops Summary As of Sunday, November 2nd, 54 percent of the corn crop was harvested, compared to 84 percent last year and 80 percent average. Soybean harvest reached 97 percent complete, compared to 96 percent last year and 97 percent average. Sugarbeet harvest was at 94 percent complete, compared to 99 percent last year and average. Sunflower harvest reached 56 percent complete, compared to 77 percent last year and 76 percent average. As of Friday, October 31st, 68 percent of corn was rated in good or excellent condition. Sixty-four percent of sunflowers and 38 percent of pasture were rated in good or excellent condition.
