mn-crop-weather State Minnesota Weekly Crop-Weather Week Ending Date Week Ending November 30, 2008 Issue MN-CW-48-08 Agricultural Summary Minnesota farmers nearly wrapped up harvest this past week, according to USDA, NASS, Minnesota Field Office. Minimal amounts of precipitation across the state allowed harvest progress of corn and sunflowers to move towards completion. Freezing temperatures throughout the state, however, have continued to hinder some farmer's ability to till the soil and apply fertilizer. The average temperature for the week was 26.6 degrees, 3.3 degrees above normal. Statewide topsoil moisture supplies as of Friday, November 28th, were 1 percent very short, 6 percent short, 77 percent adequate, and 16 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies were 2 percent very short, 16 percent short, 71 percent adequate, and 11 percent surplus. Statewide, on average, there were 5.5 days suitable for fieldwork during the week. As of Sunday, November 30th, 97 percent of the corn crop was harvested, compared to 100 percent last year and 98 percent average. Sunflower harvest reached 95 percent complete, compared to 100 percent last year and 97 percent average.
